Prime Minister Stephen Harper visits Canadian forces integrated command centre
February 10, 2010
OTTAWA – Prime Minister Stephen Harper today visited the Canadian Forces Integrated Command Centre at National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa, where he met with Canadian military officials and toured the facility. This command centre is an integral part of the security planning for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence, Vic Toews, Minister of Public Safety, and General Walter Natynczyk, Chief of the Defence Staff. “Keeping athletes, officials, spectators and communities safe during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games is a tremendous responsibility,” said the Prime Minister. “The command centre I visited today is a state-of-the-art facility that monitors domestic and international Canadian Forces operations such as the Games.” Security, police forces, and public safety agencies from all levels of government and from across the country — led by the RCMP — are working together to ensure a collective response to any potential emergency on land, sea or in the air. The scope and scale of these Games will make it one of the largest domestic security operations in Canadian history. |
