I would like to take this moment to wish all Nunavummiut a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. It is both an honour and pleasure to be celebrating the holiday season with you once again as your Member of Parliament, Minister of Health, and Minister Responsible for the
North.
The holidays are a time to embrace the spirit of the season – enjoying time with our loved ones and celebrating all of the things in our lives for which we are grateful. I am looking forward to seeing familiar faces and spending time with my friends and family in Nunavut. As we approach the year’s end, it is important to reflect on all that was accomplished throughout 2009.
A successful 10-year anniversary, a fun filled Nunavut Day as well as many other joyful occasions were only few of the many achievements fulfilled over the last year for both Nunavut and Canada’s North.
Throughout 2009 our Conservative government continued to make substantial commitments to the economic, social and cultural growth of both Nunavut and the North. I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to be a strong voice for Nunavummiut as we move forward with these positive developments. As a result of our hard-work, Nunavut continues to be better positioned to truly showcase its capabilities.
With the end of one year comes another, and I look forward to continuing to move Nunavut’s and Nunavummiut’s matters forward in 2010.
ITK has declared 2010: the Year of the Inuit; let’s make it memorable. I will continue to do my part to positively promote Nunavut and Canada’s North, including working to protect our culture, heritage and ways of life.
From my family to yours, I wish all Nunavummiut a Merry Christmas and prosperous New Year.
