Ottawa, Ontario – Today, the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Member of Parliament for Nunavut, Minister of Health, and Minister Responsible for the Territories had the pleasure of attending “A Taste of the Arctic An Evening Celebrating Inuit Culture” hosted by Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami (ITK).
Tonight’s event was part of ITK’s 2010: Year of the Inuit educational campaign. The goal of the campaign is to help increase awareness among the Canadian population about issues facing Inuit across the country, while also celebrating Inuit accomplishments and achievements. The proceeds from tonight’s event will benefit the Arctic Children and Youth Foundation.
“I was glad to have had the opportunity to attend this evening’s event,” Aglukkaq said. “It is important that all of us do our part to raise awareness and celebrate our culture and heritage. I was also happy to see that the proceeds raised tonight will benefit youth in the Arctic.”
This evening’s event included a presentation by two-time Juno award winner Susan Aglukark, a performance by Taqralik Patridge, and a special guest appearance by Peter Mansbridge. Also featured was a private viewing of Uuturautiit: Cape Dorset Celebrates 50 Years of Printmaking.
