Over the course of the weekend and today, we have taken steps forward for our great territory. We welcomed the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors. Additionally, Senator Patterson and I held an informative Pre-Budget Consultation, and today I was happy to have the opportunity to announce funding for upgrades to Nunavut’s energy infrastructure.
Together we were able to showcase to the G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors what Nunavut and Canada’s North has to offer to the global community so they could gain a better understanding of important issues like northern development, Canada’s arctic sovereignty, as well as the cultural and economic importance of the seal hunt to Canada’s Inuit population.
Senator Patterson and I also hosted a Pre-Budget Consultation. The consultation was a chance for us to listen and gain input from our constituents as our government moves forward with implementing Canada’s Economic Action Plan. The information that was shared with us at the Pre-Budget Consultation will allow us to continue to work for all Nunavummiut.
Lastly, I was able to cap off the successful weekend by announcing that our government, together with Qulliq Energy Corporation (QEC), is investing almost $14 million to upgrade energy infrastructure in Nunavut. This investment will provide more reliable power service to the residents of Nunavut and will help to lower the cost of energy for businesses and homes across the territory.
