Having the opportunity to represent my community in Ottawa is both an honour and a privilege.
On October 14th, the residents of Nunavut cast their ballots and elected me as their representative. I am humbled by the trust you have placed in me and grateful for the opportunity to be in this job that I love.
Through the course of the campaign I had the chance to speak with hundreds of people. The message I heard from Nunavummiut was fundamentally the same; we want a territory that will continue to grow and prosper; with communities that are peaceful, safe and clean. We want a territory where we can build a strong future that we will enjoy, that our families will enjoy and that our elders will enjoy.
With this election win, you have chosen the Conservative Party led by Stephen Harper as the government best able to represent your aspirations. I am proud to be part of Prime Minister Harper’s team and I intend to ensure that the North has a strong voice in Ottawa as we pursue the issues that matter to you.
I want to thank everyone who took the time to vote in this election and also remind all of you of the importance of voting. I have been working non-stop since coming to Ottawa and I intend to be the hardest working Member of Parliament that the North has ever had.
The results of this election give me great hope for the future of our territories and our country. I have already started to work and deliver results for the people of Nunavut and Canada. Throughout my days in Ottawa I will continue to work for all Nunavummiut!
All the best,
The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, MP
Minister Responsible for the North and Minister of Health
