April 11, 2010

Iqaluit, Nunavut
– The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Member of Parliament for Nunavut, Minister of Health, and Minister Responsible for the North, recently concluded a productive week in the North.

During this time, Minister Aglukkaq visited Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk, Aklavik, and Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
While in Inuvik, Minister Aglukkaq, in partnership with the NWT Government and the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, made a $9 million announcement supporting job training in Canada’s North.

In addition, the Minister participated in discussions with community leaders in Tuktoyaktuk and Aklavik - highlighting what the Government of Canada is doing to support their communities and the North.

“It was great to be able to see firsthand our Government’s investments at work in each of the communities,” Minister Aglukkaq said.
Minister Aglukkaq followed up her travels in the NWT by traveling to Iqaluit where she was able to deliver remarks at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce reception Friday evening and participate throughout the weekend in the Toonik Tyme festivities.

“It was a busy week but I thoroughly enjoyed it,” Minister Aglukkaq said.  “I was able to meet with so many northerners, receive feedback, and announce funding that will be beneficial for the North.”

Minister Aglukkaq is now returning to Ottawa to continue to be a strong voice in Government and Cabinet for Nunavummiut and Northerners.
