Ottawa, Ontario -- The Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, Member of Parliament for Nunavut, Regional Minister for the North, and Minister of Health is mourning the loss of a dear friend and remarkable leader, Jose Kusugak.

“It gives me great sadness to learn that Jose Kusugak passed away today after a brave battle with cancer.  This is a great loss not only for his family and friends but for all of Nunavut.”

“Jose had an extensive list of accomplishments that marked his almost 30 year professional career in the North. He was instrumental in the creation of Nunavut. His caring nature, wise leadership and vision for the North has left behind a legacy which will not be forgotten for generations of Nunavummiut.”

“I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Jose’s wife, Nellie, his children Aliisa, Pujjuut, Alaana and Special, his grandchildren and the entire Kusugak family.”
