Statement by the Honourable Leona Aglukkaq, MP for Nunavut, Minister of Health and Minister Responsible for the North
March 01, 2010

February has been a successful month for us here in Nunavut.  The Government of Canada  has hosted the G7 Finance Ministers and Bank of Governors meeting in Iqaluit.  Thanks to our government I was able to deliver millions of dollars in funding that will directly benefit Nunavut.   Lastly, on a personal note I was able to meet, talk and receive feedback from Nunavummiut across the territory in preparation for the up-coming budget.

Further, as part of my activities throughout the month I was able to participate in Cabinet meetings in Ottawa, hold health stakeholder meetings in Calgary and Toronto, travel to Vancouver for Northern Days at the Olympics, conduct meetings in Iqaluit and Yellowknife, and get together with constituents in Qikiqtarjuaq, Clyde River, Pond Inlet, and Cambridge Bay.

While in Cambridge Bay I had the opportunity to meet with Senator Dennis Patterson as we both attended the Kitikmeot Trade Show.  Following the conference we were able to discuss knowledge he learned from his stops in Rankin Inlet, Arviat, and Baker Lake.

The information that I was able to gather as I met with people from coast-to–coast-to-coast will help me to continue to deliver results that reflect the priorities of all Nunavummiut.
